Privacy Policy
Effective September 24, 2026
This Policy explains how Aptiva handles information through its iPhone app, this website, and related services (the “Service”). Aptiva is operated by the developer identified on its App Store listing (“Aptiva,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Questions: iamdavidchen0@gmail.com.
1. Information you give us
| Category | Examples | Why we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address and password, or your Sign in with Apple identity. If you choose Hide My Email, Apple gives us a private relay address. We never see your Apple password. The birth year you enter when you sign up. | Sign you in, secure your account, and check whether you are old enough for Aptiva and its AI features |
| Food preferences | Allergens, diet, wellness goal, cuisines, cooking time, and cooking comfort level | Leave out recipes that conflict with them and rank the rest |
| Meal Map details (optional) | Birth month and year, sex used for nutrition reference values, height, weight, activity level, meal times, and yes/no answers about pregnancy or breastfeeding and clinician-directed planning | Estimate nutrition targets and build your plan. This can be sensitive health information, and you only provide it if you use Meal Map. |
| Pantry and shopping | Pantry items and shopping lists | Suggest what you can make and build shopping lists |
| Activity | Likes, dislikes, saves, meals marked as made, and meal plans. We derive a taste profile from this activity. | Personalize recommendations |
| Recipes, reviews, and photos | Recipes you write, reviews of dishes you cooked, and photos you take or choose for a review | Save them to your account and, if you publish, show them in Community |
| Community profile | Display name, avatar color, and friends you add | Show who shared a recipe or review |
| Ask Chef | Questions you type, photos you attach, and cooking facts Ask Chef remembers, such as your equipment or household size | Answer your questions and keep your chat history |
| Voice dictation | A short audio clip, recorded only after you tap the mic button | Turn your speech into text in the field you are editing |
| Location (optional) | A city or ZIP code you type, or your current location if you tap Use my location. The search runs on your device through Apple Maps; Aptiva does not receive or store your location. | Find nearby restaurants |
| Dish answers (optional) | Your answer to whether a restaurant serves a dish, saved with Apple's place identifier and the dish name | Show other cooks the total counts, never who answered |
| Reports and messages | Content reports you file and emails you send us | Moderate Community and help you |
2. Information collected automatically
- Identifiers. Your account ID and a random ID for your app install, used to sync your data between devices and resolve conflicts. They are not advertising identifiers.
- Technical and diagnostic data. App version, request IDs, error codes, response times, and usage counts, used to keep the Service working and enforce fair-use limits. Meal Map diagnostics are minimized to timing, failure codes, and coverage signals, and never include your body measurements or raw private plan content.
We do not use advertising or third-party analytics tools, we do not read your contacts or Apple Health data, and we never use your location in the background.
3. How we use information
- Provide the Service: recommendations, Search, Meal Map, Cookbook, pantry, Ask Chef, and Community.
- Sync your data across your devices while you are signed in.
- Keep Aptiva safe: moderate published content, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Respond to support requests and send messages about your account.
- Fix bugs and improve features using minimized technical data.
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
4. AI features
Ask Chef, dictation, photo questions, and recipe writing help use Google’s Gemini API. They are available only if you are 18 or older, based on the birth year you gave at sign-up; for younger users they are turned off and nothing is sent to Google. The app asks for your permission before you first use them. When you use one:
- Ask Chef sends your question, the recent conversation, your food preferences, pantry item names, the catalog recipes that fit your preferences, and a short summary of your current meal plan if you have one. Your height, weight, and birth date are not sent.
- Photo questions send the photo you attach, for that question only. We do not store the photo.
- Dictation sends your audio clip to be transcribed. Only the resulting text is kept.
- Recipe help sends the recipe text you are working on.
- Ask Chef on the map sends your question, the recent conversation on that map, the recipe and dish, the listed restaurants’ names, categories, addresses, websites, distances, travel times, and dish-answer counts, and the allergies, diet, and goal you declared. It never sends your coordinates. Gemini may use Google Search to look up menus and other public pages about those restaurants, and the reply shows the pages and searches it used.
These requests pass through Aptiva’s server, which knows your account so it can apply usage limits. We do not send your name, email address, or account ID to Google. Google processes this information under the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. AI answers can be wrong and are not medical advice.
5. Who receives information
| Recipient | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Your account and everything you sync | Hosts our database, sign-in, and file storage |
| Google Gemini API | What you send through AI features, as described above | Writes AI answers and transcriptions |
| Apple | Your Sign in with Apple request. For nearby search, the search terms and map area (or the city or ZIP code you type), sent directly from your device; your allergies, diet, and goals are not sent. | Signs you in; finds restaurants, travel times, Look Around imagery, place cards, and directions |
| Expo | App version and basic device information when the app checks for updates | Delivers app updates |
| Other Aptiva users | Content you publish, as described below | Community features |
| Authorities | Information we are legally required to provide | Respond to valid legal requests or protect someone's safety |
Links out of the app. If you tap a Walmart shopping link, Walmart receives the ingredient or product you chose. Some of these links are affiliate links, so Aptiva may earn a commission. Your allergies, diet, and account details are never sent. If you open a YouTube video, YouTube’s own policies apply. Recipe videos and photo tutorial pages come from third-party sites and load inside the app, where those sites’ own privacy policies apply. Restaurant search is subject to the Apple Privacy Policy.
If Aptiva is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer to the new owner, who must keep honoring this Policy.
6. What other people can see
- Private by default. Your preferences, Meal Map details, pantry, activity, Ask Chef chats, and draft recipes are visible only to you.
- When you publish a recipe or review, other Aptiva users can see it with your display name and avatar color. Reviews and their photos appear only after they pass moderation.
- Friends can see your display name, avatar color, when you became friends, and, if you turn on weekly sharing, how many meals you cooked this week. They never see your allergies, diet, pantry, or searches.
7. How long we keep information
- We keep your information while your account is active.
- When you delete your account, we delete your account, synced data, Ask Chef history, recipes, reviews, and review photos right away, and remove your published content from Community.
- A minimal, de-identified record that consent was given and that content was moderated may be kept for up to 90 days, then deleted.
- Recipes you delete are permanently removed after 30 days.
- Backups kept by our hosting provider expire on their normal rotation.
- Your location, restaurant search areas, and the restaurants Apple returns are not received or stored by Aptiva. Dish answers stay with your account until you delete it.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access and export. Profile, Settings, Account and sync, Export my cloud data.
- Correct. Edit your preferences and Meal Map details in the app at any time.
- Delete. Delete individual recipes and reviews, or your whole account from Profile, Settings, Delete account.
- Permissions. Camera, microphone, photos, and location are requested only when you use a feature that needs them. Turn them off any time in iOS Settings.
- AI memory. Turn off, remove, or clear what Ask Chef remembers from its Memory controls.
Depending on where you live, including California and other US states, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your information, to limit the use of sensitive information, and to appeal our decision on your request. Email iamdavidchen0@gmail.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
9. Security
Information is encrypted in transit. Your sign-in session is stored encrypted on your device with a key kept in the iOS Keychain. Database rules restrict your data on our servers to your account. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
10. Age requirement
Aptiva is for people 13 and older, and people under 18 need a parent or guardian’s permission. We ask for your birth year when you sign up. Ask Chef and the other AI features are only for people 18 and older; if you are younger, they stay off and none of your information is sent to our AI provider. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this Policy
If we make a material change, we will update the effective date above and tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
